Welcome
Kids are fun...and sometimes challenging. Their brains work in fascinating ways and they just understand the world differently.
I get them.
I get kids who have challenging behaviors for whatever reason.
...that the world is a hard place to be sometimes.
...why parents are frustrated.
...why parents are worried.
And I LOVE to play.
I love to walk.
I love to do art.
I enjoy being with kids.
My specialty is kids...and families. I work with children 3 and up. For children under 3, I work with parents to help fine-tune their skills from the get-go. I also help parents build stronger connections with their children...ask me about parenting support/coaching!
Here's the technical stuff:
I have a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Adams State University, an EdS (Educational Specialist Degree) in Play Therapy from the University of Mississippi, and a Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Services from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in TX (#67483), LPC in Colorado (#0015674), and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor™. I have a primarily child-centered approach to therapy meaning that believe your child has the ability to heal themselves, we just have to provide the space to allow it. I tailor every session to your child or family's needs so I don't use just one theory, I pull from several.
I have many years of experience with young children and their families, working with child development, parent coaching, and education. I provide counseling for children and families who may have experienced trauma, bullying, behavioral issues, developmental delays, learning disabilities, grief, and loss, among other things that can influence the interactions within the whole family. Play therapy and developmentally appropriate activities are used in counseling sessions with both children and families. Evening and weekend counseling appointments are available.
Through the years I’ve been counseling families, I have realized that sometimes parents find it nice to have some guidance or coaching through troubling times with their children. Perhaps, you would like to know if your child’s behavior is age-appropriate or if you should be concerned; then parent education might be what you are looking for. I will meet with you to discuss child development, specifically related to your concerns, to provide guidance or help point you in the right direction.

I offer a safe, warm environment for kids and their families. Sometimes I work with just the child, other times the family, and sometimes a mix of both. For young kids, we play or that’s what it feels like to the kids. I provide them the opportunity to engage in therapeutic play and establish a relationship with me, someone who isn’t their caregiver. There is a ton of value in the relationship which helps kids work through a variety of hang-ups that may be contributing to behavior concerns. They usually love coming in and want to live at the office.
What I do
For older adolescents and teens, I offer the same safe and warm environment and work in the same manner. Sometimes older kids highly value the activity therapy (also known as play therapy) and are able to get a lot of things off their chest in a non-threatening way. I also like to use things like sand therapy, art, music, walking…the list goes on because every person that walks into the office is different.
Sometimes families need help interacting with each other. There could be a long list of things that members want “fixed” but it usually boils down to communication and bonding. I help families work through the issues that are seemingly road blocks and impossible to cross. We can’t get anywhere, though, if there is a breakdown in communication.
So we work on the communication piece. We work on the relationships. We work together. There are many moving parts in a family unit...we tweak, we oil, we work on it until it's working the way you want it to.
I help your children. I help your family find it’s happy again. It’s fascinating. It’s humbling. It’s what I love to do.
